Christmas Carol

Christmas Carol

Christmas is coming so here’s a full Christmas lesson plan to get into the Holiday mood with your students.

Objectives:

-Recognize and identify words, learn new vocabulary, sing Christmas Carol.

-Work in small groups and write their own version of the song and use their imagination.

-Share their work with classmates.

Warm up

As a warm up, we could ask our students which their favourite Christmas carols are and why.

We could also go through dates and ask questions like for instance:

When is Christmas Eve? 24th December.

When is New Year’s Day? 1st January.  And so on…

Twelve Days of Christmas
1-Watch the following video, listen to the Christmas carol with lyrics and sing-along.

2-When you finish singing. Try to remember the words and match them with the right numbers.

  • Twelve                                                         geese
  • Seven                                                           partridge in a pear tree
  • Eight                                                            maids milking
  • Five                                                              French hens
  • Six                                                                turtle doves
  • Ten                                                               calling birds
  • Three                                                            golden rings
  • Nine                                                              swans
  • A                                                                   drummer drumming
  • Four                                                              lords leaping
  • Two                                                               ladies dancing
  • Eleven                                                           pipers piping

3- Ask the students to work in groups or individually in order to think and write their version of the song but changing the sentence: “On the first day of Christmas my teacher gave to me…” Once they have finished they can share their work with the rest of their classmates.

4- The teacher sings to motivate their students and asks them to sing along with her (giving handouts with the lyrics of the carol and extra worksheets about the carol).

  1. What a good job, Nuria! The blog is full of really interesting and enjoyable ideas, activities and resources that I will use in my classes.
I have chosen your last post because Christmas time is approaching and I think the way you have planned this lesson is really good as you practice different skills such as speaking, listening and reading.
It is also quite clear that you have tried to motivate the children in many different ways with videos, songs, games, printables to colour, the possibility of using flashcards…etc.
I am quite sure children will enjoy this lesson a lot.
